Your size, not our list

The standard sizes in the catalogue are not all the sizes we make. They are here because they are ordered most often and a ready-made mattress is easiest to buy for them. We have no upper limit and no fixed size grid.

What this means in practice. If the alcove between the wardrobe and the window is 172 cm, the bed is designed for 172, not “almost fits”. If the ceiling slopes or a shelf hangs above the bed, the headboard is made lower. If you are taller than 190 cm, the bed is made longer. None of these cases moves the order into a different category.

So the usual order of steps is reversed: first the room, then the model. Measure the space, leave a 60–70 cm walkway at the sides and at the foot, and work out the bed from the width that remains. Then give our manager the figure — we will match both the frame and the mattress to it.

If you already know the size and it is a standard 160 or 180 cm, this is for you: double beds. The same models are there, but with prices already recalculated for these widths, plus a comparison of 160 versus 180.

Why we only make upholstered headboards

We have no wooden headboards at all, and that is specialisation, not a limited range. MeBelle is an upholstered furniture factory: headboards are made with the same technology as our sofas, in the same workshop, from the same materials and in the same fabric collections.

In the bedroom, fabric matters more than anywhere else. You are in contact with the headboard every night, and it is what collects dust in the part of the room where you breathe for eight hours straight. All our fabrics are hypoallergenic — this applies to all three collections, not to a separate “for allergy sufferers” line.

A headboard outlives the interior around it. A bed lasts ten years or more — in that time the wallpaper, curtains and rug will all change. An upholstered headboard can be reupholstered in a new fabric, which costs many times less than a new bed. Scratched or faded wood cannot be restored like that.

And the obvious one: people lean on it. Reading, watching something, working on a laptop — an upholstered headboard replaces a pile of cushions behind your back. It is not cold in winter and does not hurt if you knock your elbow on it: in a bedroom where children play, that makes a difference.

The only honest argument for wood is easier care. But here too the fabric decides: the collections include options with a dense weave and a water-repellent treatment that cope with a home with children and pets. Tell our manager about your situation — we will pick suitable ones and send samples.

Lift-up mechanism: who needs it

The mechanism is an optional extra, and it is available on any of the 23 models. So you do not have to choose between “the model I like” and “the model with storage”: the storage is added to the one you chose.

The storage compartment and the mechanism are one decision, not two. The space under the base opens precisely because the base lifts; there is no such thing as “just storage” on its own.

It is worth taking if your flat has no walk-in wardrobe and your duvets and pillows currently sit on top shelves or in the wardrobe instead of clothes.

It is not worth it if you have enough storage space: without the mechanism the bed is cheaper, lighter and has fewer moving parts.

Base

A slatted base consists of flexible slats that give under weight. It works together with the mattress: it spreads the load and lets the mattress breathe from below, which matters for preventing damp and odours.

The closer the slats, the more even the support. This is especially important for mattresses with a pocket spring unit.

A mattress for a non-standard bed

The bed and the mattress are two separate orders: the mattress is not included in the price of the bed.

For a non-standard size this is essential. You will not find a ready-made mattress 172 cm wide — mattress factories work to fixed size grids. So we make mattresses in the same dimensions as our beds: ASTI, for example, comes in fifteen sizes, and any other size is made to order in the same way. It is better to order the mattress together with the bed, not afterwards.

Production and delivery

Custom sizes are agreed separately with our production engineer.

The warranty is 24 months, as on all our furniture.

Beds arrive disassembled, but the headboard and frame parts are large. Check the door width, the turn in the hallway and the lift dimensions before ordering, not after.
