A pouf does three different things
It adds seating when guests come. This is the most practical scenario: poufs are light, easy to move and put away, and they do not take up space permanently like another armchair.
It works as a footrest. A sofa plus a pouf becomes something much closer to a chaise longue. For this, the pouf should be roughly at the seat height of the sofa — a few centimetres lower, not higher.
It hides things. A storage pouf with a hinged lid holds a throw, toys, shoes or seasonal odds and ends. In the hallway it is a lifesaver: you sit on it to put your shoes on, and the shoes live inside it.
How to choose the height
The most common mistake is buying a pouf without checking its height against what it will stand next to.
If the pouf is for your feet, it should be level with the sofa seat or 2–5 cm lower. A higher pouf will push your legs up, and within half an hour it becomes uncomfortable.
If the pouf is extra seating, a comfortable height is about 40–45 cm, like a chair. Lower ones look nice, but an adult will not sit on them comfortably for long.
If the pouf is for the hallway, to put shoes on, it should also be around 45 cm, and here a storage version is the better choice: two jobs in one piece.
Bench pouf
A long bench is a format of its own. It works at the foot of the bed, along the wall in the hallway or as seating at the dining table instead of chairs on one side. Measure the length in advance: the bench should be noticeably shorter than the bed or table it stands by, otherwise the arrangement will look heavy.
Fabric
All our fabrics are hypoallergenic, and the collections include scratch-resistant (anti-vandal) and water-repellent ones.
A pouf is one of the few pieces where you can afford a bright fabric without risk. A sofa in a bold colour may start to bore you within a year, but a pouf costs many times less and replacing it does not hurt.
If the pouf will stand in the hallway, tell our manager — the wear there is higher and you need collections with a denser weave.
Frequently asked questions
- How high should a footstool pouf be?
- Level with the sofa seat or 2–5 cm lower. A higher pouf pushes your legs up, and sitting becomes uncomfortable.
- How is a storage pouf different from an ordinary one?
- A storage pouf has a hinged lid with space inside for throws, toys or shoes. From the outside they look the same.
- Will a pouf take an adult’s weight?
- Yes, poufs are designed to be used as seats. If you plan for someone to sit on it regularly, tell our manager — we will suggest models with a suitable construction.
- Which pouf should I choose for the hallway?
- About 45 cm high so that it is comfortable to put shoes on, and preferably with storage — then the shoes can be kept inside it. Choose a fabric with a dense weave: the wear in a hallway is higher.
- Can I order a pouf in the fabric of my sofa?
- Yes, if the sofa is ours, the collection is kept in the order. If not, send a photo or a sample.
