Three different jobs an armchair does

Complementing a sofa. The classic living-room scenario: an armchair matching the sofa or in a contrasting fabric adds a seat without taking up as much room as a second sofa. If that is the aim, choose an armchair from the same fabric collection as the sofa, or a deliberately contrasting one. The worst option is an “almost the same” shade: the difference will show and look like a mistake.

Being a statement piece. An armchair with a striking shape in a bright fabric works as an object in its own right — in a corner of the living room, by the window, in the bedroom. This is where it makes sense to step away from the palette of the rest of the furniture.

Creating a reading corner. Then what matters is not the look but the seating position: depth, backrest angle, armrests at the right height. An armchair you can sit in comfortably for half an hour with a book and an armchair that looks good are not always the same thing.

Designer armchairs: shape and seating position

What makes an armchair a designer piece is not the price or the brand but a well-thought-out shape that you recognise at first glance — and a seating position that does not fight that shape. More detail: Designer armchair: what it really means.

On solid ash legs — Lavita, Mone, Novial: a light silhouette, with the floor visible under the chair. On metal legs — ADDA, Sussex, Saarika, Only, Kamal. On a plinth base, on a single support — Shellie, Candy 1 and Candy 2: the armchair sits firmly on the floor, like a sculpture.

Filling

All our upholstered furniture is filled with durable polyurethane foam of varying density. Firmer layers underneath provide support and hold the shape; softer layers on top provide seating comfort.

We do not use spring units. A combination of polyurethane foam of varying density gives even support across the whole surface: no separate areas that sag on their own, and no metal that starts responding to every movement over time.

A layer of hollow fibre lies between the fabric and the foam. It holds the shape: it keeps the upholstery from sagging and smooths the transition, so creases do not appear at the seams over time.

Hidden parts are lined with Fibertex — the underside and inner surfaces that nobody looks at in a showroom, yet this is where a piece quietly wears the most. The lining protects the inner layers from dust and friction.

This solution is the same across the whole range — from a pouf to a large corner sofa. You do not choose between a “cheap” and an “expensive” filling: it is the same, and the price difference goes into the construction, size and fabric.

Fabrics

All our fabrics are hypoallergenic. In addition, some collections have extra properties: anti-scratch — with a dense weave that stands up better to claws, and water-repellent — with a treatment that makes stains easier to remove.

The fabrics are divided into three categories — ECO, PRESTIGE and PREMIUM. It is important to understand that the category determines the price, not the set of properties. Anti-scratch and water-repellent collections exist in different categories, so choose by the specific collection, not by the tier.

Tell our manager about your situation — children, pets, a sunny side, how often you plan to clean — and you will get a selection of specific collections for your case. We send samples so you can see and touch them before ordering.

A practical tip: if the armchair will stand by a window on the sunny side, tell our manager. Fade resistance varies between collections, and it is the kind of detail people only notice a year later.
