Chest of drawers or wardrobe: which when

This is the first question, and the answer depends not on taste but on what you store.

A chest of drawers wins where things are folded: underwear, T-shirts, jumpers, children’s clothes, bed linen. A drawer gives access to the whole layer at once, and nothing gets lost at the back.

A wardrobe is needed for things that should hang: coats, dresses, shirts, suits.

In practice a bedroom needs both. But if the space allows only one, count what you have more of.

A separate scenario is a chest of drawers in the hallway. There it works as a surface: keys, post and odds and ends on top, with hats and gloves for the season inside.

How many drawers

Three drawers — a compact option for a small bedroom or hallway. It holds the basics and takes up little space.

Four to five — the standard for a bedroom. It lets you separate things by type rather than putting everything in one pile.

A wide chest with two rows — when the chest of drawers replaces part of a wardrobe or stands in the living room as the main storage.

A practical tip: take one drawer more than you think you need. There are always more things, and buying a matching chest of drawers a year later is harder than it seems.

Material and assembly

We make it from E1-class MDF and chipboard, 18 mm thick. E1 is a formaldehyde emission class under the European classification — the level permitted for furniture in living spaces. It is a specific technical class of board, not an advertising phrase like “quality materials”: we have the certificate for the board, and you can request it together with the invoice.

Laser edging, from 0.4 to 2 mm depending on where it goes. The laser fuses the edge to the board without a glue line — the thin dark strip that yellows and peels over time on ordinary PVC edging. Visible edges get a thicker band, inner ones a thinner band: a thick edge inside would only eat into the usable space.

You choose the colour and combination of materials together with our manager — not from three options in a drop-down list, but to suit your interior. Before production starts, we prepare a visual in the chosen material: you see exactly how your chest of drawers will look before we start making it.

Dimensions and functions are not fixed either. Width, height, depth, the number and depth of drawers, the position of shelves — all of this can be adjusted to your space and your habits. The model in the catalogue is a starting point, not a fixed product.

The chest of drawers arrives disassembled. That is good for delivery — boxes fit where an assembled piece would not.

Sizes and colours of our chests of drawers

Width — from 73 cm (SCANDIE) to 190 cm (VOK). The narrow, tall SCANDIE (120 cm high, 5 drawers) fits where there is no room for a wide chest. The low, wide NAGRI 1 and NAGRI 2 (178 cm) work under a TV or under a window.

Most models are 40–53 cm deep: the chest of drawers does not eat into the walkway by the bed.

White — MODE 1, MODE 2, VOK and Omnia. Wood-effect — NAGRI, SOLID, Deshi, Chill, SCANDIE. All are made of melamine-faced chipboard, E1 class.

Height matters

In a bedroom a chest of drawers is most often also used as a surface: for a lamp, books, odds and ends. So pay attention to the height of the top — a comfortable working height is about 80–90 cm; a lower chest of drawers will look like a cabinet.

If you plan a mirror or a picture above the chest of drawers, leave 25–30 cm between the top and its lower edge.

A set for the bedroom
