12 compact models for children’s and teenagers’ rooms. Rounded shapes, fabric that is easy to clean and an orthopaedic base for everyday sleeping — no need to buy a mattress.

Why a sofa in a child’s room

A sofa in a child’s room does a job that a bed cannot.

It is a place for guests. Friends staying overnight are a regular scenario from about the age of seven. A sofa handles it without a camp bed in the middle of the room.

It is an area for play and socialising, separate from the sleeping area. Psychologically this helps: the bed stays a place for sleep rather than an all-purpose playground.

It is a compromise for a small room. If there is not enough floor space for a full-size bed plus a sofa, a kids’ sofa bed covers both functions.

What to look at when choosing

Shape. Rounded lines instead of sharp corners are not about looks but about the number of bruises. Children move fast and do not look where they are going.

Fabric. This is the main criterion, and it differs from the adult categories. In a child’s room what matters is not abrasion resistance but how easily stains come out: felt-tip pen, juice, paint, modelling clay. Collections differ a lot on this even within the same price category — so ask our manager specifically for a “child’s room” selection rather than going by ECO or PREMIUM.

Size. The child’s room is usually the smallest in the flat. Measure not only the space for the sofa but also the floor space left for play — you need more of it than you think.

Unfolding. Some models in the catalogue fold out. If the sofa is needed for regular sleeping, always check the sleeping area of the specific model and whether the design is built to be unfolded every day. This information is in each product’s specifications.

Orthopaedic base — no mattress needed

This is the main practical difference between our kids’ sofas and ordinary ones.

Models designed for everyday sleeping have an orthopaedic base. It gives a flat, springy surface and replaces a mattress — there is no need to buy one separately.

In a child’s room this solves several problems at once. The sofa stops being a compromise of “you can sleep on it, but not for long” — it is slept on every day. You do not have to hunt for a mattress to fit the unfolded sofa and think about where to put it during the day. And the total comes to less than a sofa plus a separate mattress.

Whether a model has an orthopaedic base is stated in its specifications — check before ordering.

Filling

All our upholstered furniture is filled with durable polyurethane foam of varying density. Firmer layers underneath provide support and hold the shape; softer layers on top provide seating comfort.

We do not use spring units. A combination of polyurethane foam of varying density gives even support across the whole surface: no separate areas that sag on their own, and no metal that starts responding to every movement over time.

A layer of hollow fibre lies between the fabric and the foam. It holds the shape: it keeps the upholstery from sagging and smooths the transition, so creases do not appear at the seams over time.

Hidden parts are lined with Fibertex — the underside and inner surfaces that nobody looks at in a showroom, yet this is where a piece quietly wears the most. The lining protects the inner layers from dust and friction.

This solution is the same across the whole range — from a pouf to a large corner sofa. You do not choose between a “cheap” and an “expensive” filling: it is the same, and the price difference goes into the construction, size and fabric.

More on this in the article Polyurethane foam or spring unit: why our sofas have no springs.

A child puts less load on a sofa than an adult, so excessive firmness is not needed here. The combination of densities is chosen so that the sofa does not sag from jumping and is not hard.

Why a kids’ sofa costs as much as an adult one

Almost everyone who opens the catalogue asks this, so here is a straight answer.

Kids’ models are more complex to make than most straight adult sofas. Rounded shapes are not a decorative choice but a different frame geometry: curved parts take longer to cut and are harder to assemble than straight ones.

The sewing is different too. Fabric cannot simply be stretched over a rounded surface — the cover is made of more pieces, and each one has to be fitted to the shape. This is handwork, and there is much more of it here than in a straight sofa of the same size.

So the price of kids’ models is not a mark-up for the word “kids’” but a real difference in the labour that goes into the specific piece.

One more thing to bear in mind when comparing: in models with an orthopaedic base you no longer need a mattress. So the comparison is not “kids’ sofa versus adult sofa” but “a sofa with a ready sleeping area versus a sofa plus a mattress”.

Frequently asked questions

Can a child sleep on a kids’ sofa every day?
Yes — in models with an orthopaedic base. It gives a flat, springy surface designed specifically for everyday sleeping. Whether a model has the base is stated in its specifications, so check before ordering.
Do I need to buy a mattress for a kids’ sofa?
No, if the model has an orthopaedic base — it replaces a mattress. This is what sets our kids’ sofas apart from ordinary sofa beds, where a mattress or topper is usually needed.
Why does a kids’ sofa cost more than some adult ones?
Because of the construction. Rounded shapes mean a curved frame that takes longer to cut and is harder to assemble. Sewing a cover for rounded surfaces needs more pieces and more handwork. This is a difference in labour, not a mark-up for the word “kids’”.
Which fabric should I choose for a child’s room?
The key criterion is how easily stains come out, not abrasion resistance. Ask our manager for a selection specifically for a child’s room: within the same price category, collections vary a lot on this.
From what age is a kids’ sofa suitable?
Compact models with rounded shapes suit children from pre-school age. For a teenager it is often more convenient to take an adult model of the right size — have a look at the main sofa category too.
How much space should I leave in the room?
Besides the space for the sofa itself, leave room for play on the floor — you need more of it than it seems on the plan. If the sofa folds out, allow for its depth when unfolded.
Can I order a smaller size?
Yes, we make everything in our own factory. Any change to the dimensions is agreed with our production engineer first.
