A low bed is chosen not for style but for the geometry of the room: a sloping ceiling, a window behind the headboard, a shelf above the bed, or simply the wish for the bedroom not to feel cluttered. Here are models up to 95 cm high including the headboard — the height you actually see in the room.
When a low bed is the only option that works
A sloping ceiling or an attic. The most common case. Under a sloping ceiling a high headboard simply does not fit — or it fits, but you can no longer sit up in bed.
A bed under a window. A high headboard covers the window sill and part of the glass: less light comes into the room, and the curtains have to be hung higher. A low bed does not create this problem.
A shelf or a picture above the bed. If something already hangs on the wall, the headboard must end below it — otherwise you will bump the back of your head every time.
A small bedroom. The lower the line of the furniture, the higher the ceiling seems. In a room up to 10 m², this noticeably changes the impression without changing the area.
How low
The selection includes models from 60 cm in overall height. For reference: 60–75 cm is a truly low silhouette, the bed reads almost as a platform. 80–95 cm is moderately low: there is still a headboard you can lean against, but it does not dominate the room.
The exact height of each model is given in the specifications on the line “Height incl. headboard” — check that figure, not the height of the base.
The height can be changed. If you want a model that is not in this selection, but with a lower headboard, we make it to your figure. This is a normal order, not a separate service.
What a low bed takes away
Getting up from it is a little harder. The lower the seat, the more work for your knees. If an elderly person lives in the home or there are back problems, a low bed with a thin mattress may prove uncomfortable. Count the overall height: base plus mattress.
Reading in bed is less comfortable if the headboard is below your shoulder blades. In models from 80 cm you can still lean back; lower than that, you will need a pillow behind your back.
Both minuses have the same cure: tell our manager how you use the bed, and they will advise you on the height to settle on.
Frequently asked questions
- What height counts as low?
- In this selection — up to 95 cm including the headboard. A truly low silhouette starts at 60–75 cm, and 80–95 cm is a moderately low bed whose headboard you can still lean against.
- Can the headboard be made lower on any model?
- Yes. Headboard height is a parameter we change to order. Tell our manager the figure you need and the model you liked.
- Is a low bed suitable for a sloping ceiling?
- Yes, that is its main scenario. Measure the ceiling height exactly where the headboard will stand — and subtract some clearance so that you can sit up in bed.
- Can a low bed have a lift-up mechanism?
- Yes, the mechanism with a storage compartment is available as an option on any of our beds, including low ones. Bear in mind that the compartment adds weight to the lid when lifting.
