160 or 180 — how to choose the width

A difference of 20 centimetres seems small, but in practice it is noticeable. 160 cm means 80 cm per person, the standard for most bedrooms. 180 cm gives 90 cm each: you feel your partner’s movements less when they turn over.

The main limit is not what you want but the size of the room. For the bed to be comfortable to use, you need a walkway of at least 60–70 cm at the sides and at the foot. Do the maths: a 180 cm bed plus two 70 cm walkways is already 320 cm of room width. If that does not work, 160 cm will be a better solution than a cluttered bedroom.

A length of 200 cm suits people up to about 190 cm tall. If you are taller, tell our manager — we make beds in non-standard lengths.

Why we only make upholstered headboards

An upholstered headboard is something you can lean your back against. If you read in bed, watch something or drink coffee in the morning, it replaces a pile of pillows. A wooden one is not made for this: you have to put something behind you every time.

Wood is also cold to the touch in winter, and an accidental knock against it hurts — this is noticeable in bedrooms where children come in.

There is also a longer perspective. A bed lasts ten years or more. An upholstered headboard can be reupholstered in another fabric after a few years to refresh the bedroom without buying a new bed. With wood, that scenario does not work.

And a practical point: the fabric is chosen to match the curtains, rug or sofa — the headboard fits into the room. A wooden one, on the contrary, dictates a shade that everything else has to be matched to.

What the headboard is made of

The headboard is sewn using the same technology as our sofas, from the same materials.

The filling is durable polyurethane foam of varying density. We do not use spring units in upholstered furniture: in a piece you lean your back against every day, they are the first to give way. Polyurethane foam of varying density holds its shape for years and does not sag.

The fabrics are all hypoallergenic. Some collections have additional properties: anti-scratch with a dense weave that stands up better to claws, and water-repellent with a treatment that makes stains easier to remove. For a bedroom with pets or a child’s room, this makes all the difference.

Lift-up mechanism

A lift-up mechanism with a storage compartment is available as an option on any model. The compartment under the base holds bed linen, duvets and seasonal items — a lifesaver in small flats without a separate walk-in wardrobe.

What to consider: the mechanism adds to the price, and a bed with a compartment is heavier and takes more effort to lift. If you have enough storage space, the bed is simpler and cheaper without it.

Mattress

Beds are supplied without a mattress unless you order one separately. Before buying a mattress, be sure to check the actual inner size of the sleeping area of the specific model — it may differ from the nominal “160 × 200” depending on the frame design. Our manager will give you the exact figures for the chosen model.

Before ordering

Measure not only the space for the bed but also the delivery route: doors, the turn in the corridor, the lift. We deliver beds disassembled, but the headboard and frame are large elements, so it is worth checking the dimensions in advance.
