Guest or everyday — different requirements

A sofa slept on twice a month and a sofa slept on every night are chosen differently, and price is not the main criterion here.

For guests, it is enough that the mechanism works and the surface is flat. It is used rarely, so the service life of the mechanism and a slight step at the join make no practical difference.

For everyday use, look at three things. How many times a day it will be folded — that is the load on the mechanism. Whether the surface is flat with no join in the middle — where you lie across. And whether the sleeping area is big enough: in straight sofas it is narrower than in corner ones, and in some models it is designed for one person rather than two.

The size of the sleeping area is stated in the specifications of each model — it is the first thing worth checking.

Three mechanisms

Eurobook. Seat forward, backrest down, a flat surface without a join. The simplest mechanism, one person can unfold it. Needs a gap from the wall. All models.

Dolphin. The lower section slides out from under the seat and rises to its level. Unfolds without moving away from the wall. All models.

Tick-tock, or pantograph. The seat rises and moves forward without touching the floor. For parquet, laminate and high-pile rugs.

A sofa bed that needs no mattress

A familiar story: someone buys a sofa bed, sleeps on it for a month, then buys a thin mattress or a mattress topper — because the surface is uneven or lacks support.

Our sofa bed models have an orthopaedic base: the unfolded surface is ready for everyday sleeping straight away, with nothing extra to buy.

The comparison here is not “sofa versus sofa”, but a sofa with a ready sleeping area versus a sofa plus a mattress. In the second case, another purchase is added to the price, and the total comes out higher.

Filling

All our upholstered furniture is filled with durable polyurethane foam of varying density. Firmer layers underneath provide support and hold the shape; softer layers on top provide seating comfort.

We do not use spring units. A combination of polyurethane foam of varying density gives even support across the whole surface: no separate areas that sag on their own, and no metal that starts responding to every movement over time.

A layer of hollow fibre lies between the fabric and the foam. It holds the shape: it keeps the upholstery from sagging and smooths the transition, so creases do not appear at the seams over time.

Hidden parts are lined with Fibertex — the underside and inner surfaces that nobody looks at in a showroom, yet this is where a piece quietly wears the most. The lining protects the inner layers from dust and friction.

This solution is the same across the whole range — from a pouf to a large corner sofa. You do not choose between a “cheap” and an “expensive” filling: it is the same, and the price difference goes into the construction, size and fabric.
