A sofa for everyday sleeping: what to look for when choosing

A sofa for everyday sleeping: what to look for when choosing

If the sofa isn't a spare place for occasional guests but the main bed in the flat, the criteria differ considerably from those for a "living room" sofa used now and then. Let's look at what to pay attention to so that sleeping on a sofa every night is no worse than sleeping in a bed.

The main thing is the folding mechanism

For unfolding every day, the most important parameter is the mechanism. It decides how easy it is to unfold the sofa every evening and whether the sleeping area will be flat, with no steps between sections. We compared the Eurobook and the Dolphin — the two most practical options for regular sleeping — in detail in the article "Eurobook or Dolphin: which mechanism to choose".

A flat sleeping area with no steps

Check not only the width of the sofa when folded but also the actual dimensions of the unfolded sleeping area — they're given in the specifications of every model. For example, the GUNNA sofa unfolds into a 140×140 cm sleeping area — enough for one person to sleep comfortably, or for a compact couple.

A frame and filling that can take daily use

A sofa for everyday sleeping wears faster than a sofa for a guest room, so pay attention to the frame material — a timber frame stands up to regular loads better than one made entirely of melamine-faced chipboard (more about production in the article "How MeBelle furniture is made"). The warranty periods are a good guide to reliability: at MeBelle it's 24 months on the product and 5 years on the frame.

A fabric that won't wear out in a year

With daily use, the upholstery is in contact with the body much more often than on a "weekend" sofa. Practical synthetic fabrics in the ECO and PRESTIGE categories cope better with regular use and are easier to clean of everyday marks — more in the articles "Types of upholstery fabric" and "Anti-vandal fabrics: myths and reality".

A bedding compartment — a nice bonus

Most MeBelle sofa beds have a storage compartment under the seat — a handy place for bedding, throws or cushions that saves you a separate chest of drawers in the room.

Choose a sofa that's comfortable to sleep on every night — with a reliable mechanism and a manufacturer's warranty.
