How MeBelle furniture is made: from idea to your home

How MeBelle furniture is made: from idea to your home

Every model in the MeBelle catalogue goes through several production stages before it reaches your home. We deliberately keep the full production cycle at our own factory in Lubny — this lets us control quality at every step, not just at the final inspection. Here's what a piece's journey looks like, from the drawing to your front door.

4 stages of production: frame - cutting and assembly, sewing - cutting and seams, upholstering - handwork and mechanisms, quality control - geometry, fittings, upholstery, packing and delivery
4 stages of MeBelle furniture production

1. Cutting and assembling the frame

It all starts with cutting: the frame of a future sofa or bed is assembled from timber and melamine-faced chipboard to the drawings of the specific model, after which the structure is reinforced and checked for stability. It's the frame that determines how long the piece will last, so the geometry and strength of the joints get the closest attention here.

2. Cutting and sewing the upholstery

At the same time, in a separate section, the fabric is cut and sewn according to the option the customer has chosen. This is where the choice of upholstery comes into play — the fabric category determines both the look and the practicality of the finished piece. The cutting is done so that the direction of the pile and the pattern of the fabric match on neighbouring parts — a detail you only notice when it's missing.

3. Upholstering by hand and fitting the mechanisms

Next, the upholstery is fitted over the frame by hand — one of the most labour-intensive stages, where neat seams and even tension matter. For models that fold, the folding mechanism is fitted and tested separately (like the lift-up mechanism in beds). The quality of this stage is easiest to judge on the finished piece: straight seams, even fabric tension over the whole surface and no creases in the corners.

4. Quality control

Before dispatch, every piece is inspected: the geometry of the frame, the strength of the fittings, the evenness of the upholstery and how the mechanisms work. Only then is the furniture packed and handed over for delivery. This final check isn't a formality: it's much easier to find and fix a flaw at the factory than to deal with it once the piece is already in the customer's home.

Custom orders: the same cycle, your dimensions

A custom piece goes through the same stages as a standard model — the only difference is at the start: the drawings are adapted to your dimensions, configuration and chosen fabric. After that it's the usual process: cutting, frame, sewing, hand upholstering and quality control. That's why "non-standard" at MeBelle doesn't mean compromises — the piece is made in the same workshop by the same hands. If you're torn between a standard model and a custom one, start with the catalogue: often it's enough to change the size or fabric of an existing model — and that's quicker than designing a piece from scratch.

Packing and delivery

Before dispatch, the finished piece is protected with packaging so the fabric, corners and mechanisms arrive undamaged. A tip from us: before you order, check the dimensions of your future furniture against the width of the doors, corridors and stairwells — this is most often the "bottleneck" when bringing in a large sofa or bed. Note down the route from the building entrance to the room too: a turn in a narrow corridor sometimes proves trickier than the door itself.
