How much a made-to-order sofa costs and what makes up the price

How much a made-to-order sofa costs and what makes up the price

The question "how much does a sofa cost" almost always gets the answer "it depends", which is honest but useless. So let's go through a specific model from our catalogue, where every figure can be checked right in the configurator.

Take the MODE sofa. The cheapest configuration is ₴24,900. The most expensive is ₴74,890. Same sofa, same construction, same workshop. The threefold difference comes from two parameters.

The first parameter: size

A sofa is above all material, and material is counted in running metres. Here is MODE in one and the same fabric, just in different lengths:

LengthPriceOver the previous
170 cm₴24,900—
200 cm₴27,900+₴3,000
240 cm₴33,386+₴5,486
270 cm₴42,900+₴9,514
300 cm₴49,900+₴7,000
340 cm₴57,610+₴7,710

Look at the middle column. The price doesn't rise evenly: the first thirty centimetres cost ₴3,000, while the jump from 240 to 270 is already ₴9,514. The reason is that beyond a certain length a sofa stops being just "longer" and becomes structurally different: a section is added, the frame changes, sometimes the fabric cutting layout changes.

The practical conclusion. If you are torn between 200 and 220 cm, the extra cost is small, so go for the bigger one. If it's between 240 and 270, do the sums carefully: that is a different level of spending.

MODE price by length: from ₴24,900 for 170 cm to ₴57,610 for 340 cm, the biggest jump at 240-270 cm

The second parameter: fabric tier

This is far more transparent than you'd expect. Our fabrics are divided into three tiers, and the tier surcharge is a fixed percentage, the same for all models and all sizes:

  • ECO: the base price
  • PRESTIGE: exactly +15%
  • PREMIUM: exactly +30%

This isn't approximate or "depending on the collection". Check for yourself: MODE 170 cm is ₴24,900 / ₴28,640 / ₴32,370. The same MODE at 340 cm is ₴57,610 / ₴66,250 / ₴74,890. COLLIE 150 cm is ₴27,490 / ₴31,610 / ₴35,740. The Nagri bed 140 × 200 is ₴18,810 / ₴21,630 / ₴24,450. The same 15% and 30% everywhere.

What this gives you when planning. You can work out the fabric cost in advance without opening the configurator. Estimate the base price by size, and you know PREMIUM will add a third.

And what it means for saving. Since the surcharge is a percentage, it costs more the bigger the sofa. On 170 cm, moving from ECO to PREMIUM costs ₴7,470. On 340 cm the same move costs ₴17,280. So on a large sofa the choice of fabric matters more in money than it seems.

Fabric tier, MODE 170 cm: ₴24,900/₴28,640/₴32,370; MODE 340 cm: ₴57,610/₴66,250/₴74,890; the same percentage, a bigger amount
ECO/PRESTIGE/PREMIUM fabric tiers: the same percentage on all sizes

What isn't in the price

A few things often assumed to cost extra are included in our base price:

  • Filling. We don't make an "economy filling" version for less. A model has one filling: the one built into its design.
  • Colour within a tier. If a fabric is in ECO, any of its colours costs the same. You only pay more for moving up to a higher tier.
  • Warranty. Included in the price, not sold as a separate item.

What adds to the price separately

A folding mechanism, in models where it isn't part of the standard design.

A storage compartment, in sofas and beds where it is available as an option.

Non-standard dimensions. Changing the length within the existing size range is priced according to the price list. A size outside the range is priced by the manager for the specific drawing.

Delivery and carrying upstairs, depending on the city and the floor.

What is included in the price: the base price includes filling, colour within the tier, mechanism, storage compartment, 24-month warranty; non-standard sizes and delivery are extra

Where it's worth saving and where it isn't

Worth it: on length. Be honest about how many people sit on the sofa on an ordinary day, not at New Year. The difference between 240 and 270 cm is ₴9,500 for thirty centimetres used twice a year.

Worth it: on the tier, if the sofa is in a bedroom or guest room. Where people rarely sit, the difference in abrasion resistance between ECO and PREMIUM won't have time to show.

Not worth it: on the tier, if you have children or pets. That is the kind of saving you end up paying for with reupholstery two years later. There is a separate article on this: which fabric to choose if you have pets and children.

Not worth it: on seat depth and backrest height. These dimensions hardly affect the price but completely determine whether the sofa will be comfortable. See sofa dimensions.

What it comes to across the catalogue

For reference: our straight sofas start from ₴16,490, corner sofas from ₴33,110, beds from ₴11,800. The upper limit depends on size and tier, not on how "premium" the model is.

In brief

  • The price is created by two parameters: size and fabric tier
  • PRESTIGE is exactly +15%, PREMIUM exactly +30%, on any model and any size
  • The price by size rises unevenly: beyond 240 cm, every 30 cm costs sharply more
  • Colour within a tier, filling and warranty are in the base price
  • Saving on length is sensible; on the tier with children and pets, it isn't
