A corner sofa that unfolds solves two tasks at once: by day it is the main seating in the living room, by night a full sleeping area. So it has to meet more requirements than an ordinary sofa: it must withstand daily folding and not let a join press into the middle of your back. All the models below are of our own production, with a mechanism that turns the sofa into a sleeping area.
Corner or straight, if someone will sleep on it
A corner sofa wins on one point, and it is decisive: the sleeping area comes out wider for the same wall length. A straight sofa unfolds forward; a corner sofa of the same length also uses the side section, so the surface is not a strip but a rectangle closer to a bed.
Second, the corner fills that part of the room which would otherwise be wasted. In a rectangular living room a straight sofa leaves a dead zone behind it; a corner sofa uses it for seating or storage.
There is also one minus, and it is decisive too: a corner sofa is harder to move. A straight sofa can be turned, shifted, taken to another room. A corner sofa is planned for a specific wall. If you are planning to move house or have not settled on the layout yet, that is an argument against.
A detailed comparison is in the article Corner or straight sofa: which to choose.
Three mechanisms: which is for what
Eurobook — the most common mechanism in this selection. The seat slides forward and the backrest lowers into the freed space: the result is a flat surface without a join or a difference in height. The mechanism is the simplest of all — few moving parts, less to break, one person can unfold it. The price for this is that it needs a gap from the wall. All models: sofas with the Eurobook mechanism.
Tick-tock, or pantograph. The seat first rises and then moves forward: it is not dragged along the floor. This matters where there is parquet, laminate or a high-pile rug — mechanisms that slide along the floor leave a mark that becomes visible over time.
Dolphin. The lower section pulls out from under the seat and rises level with it. The main advantage — the sofa does not need to be moved away from the wall, it unfolds within its own footprint. This is what you need when there is a wall socket or a radiator behind the sofa, or it stands flush against the wall. All models: sofas with the Dolphin mechanism.
If you are torn between the two most common ones, there is a separate breakdown: Eurobook or Dolphin.
A sofa bed that needs no mattress
A familiar story: someone buys a sofa bed, sleeps on it for a month, then buys a thin mattress or a mattress topper — because the surface is uneven or lacks support.
Our sofa bed models have an orthopaedic base: the unfolded surface is ready for everyday sleeping straight away, with nothing extra to buy.
The comparison here is not “sofa versus sofa”, but a sofa with a ready sleeping area versus a sofa plus a mattress. In the second case, another purchase is added to the price, and the total comes out higher.
In the specifications of each model this is a separate line — “Orthopaedic properties”. If you are choosing a sofa specifically for everyday sleeping, check it before ordering.
How much space to leave
The size of a corner sofa when folded is not the size to plan the room around.
Work out the depth when unfolded. The sofa slides forward, and it spends eight hours a day in that position. Check that there is still a walkway past it and that it does not run into the coffee table or the TV stand.
Choose the corner side before ordering. Each of our corner sofas is made for a specific side — left or right; the corner cannot be switched on an already assembled sofa. Stand facing the spot where it will go and decide which side the long part runs along.
Measure the route, not just the spot. A corner sofa arrives in modules, but even a single module may not get through. Door width, the turn in the corridor, the size of the lift — before ordering, not after.
Filling
All our upholstered furniture is filled with durable polyurethane foam of varying density. Firmer layers underneath provide support and hold the shape; softer layers on top provide seating comfort.
We do not use spring units. A combination of polyurethane foam of varying density gives even support across the whole surface: no separate areas that sag on their own, and no metal that starts responding to every movement over time.
A layer of hollow fibre lies between the fabric and the foam. It holds the shape: it keeps the upholstery from sagging and smooths the transition, so creases do not appear at the seams over time.
Hidden parts are lined with Fibertex — the underside and inner surfaces that nobody looks at in a showroom, yet this is where a piece quietly wears the most. The lining protects the inner layers from dust and friction.
This solution is the same across the whole range — from a pouf to a large corner sofa. You do not choose between a “cheap” and an “expensive” filling: it is the same, and the price difference goes into the construction, size and fabric.
More on this in the article Polyurethane foam or spring unit: why our sofas have no springs.
Before ordering
Warranty — 24 months on all models.
The fabric is chosen from three collections — ECO, PRESTIGE and PREMIUM Textile. The collection affects the price, not the set of features: the mechanism, size and filling do not depend on it. If you have pets or small children, tell our manager — we will suggest a dense weave or a water-repellent treatment and send samples.
Frequently asked questions
- Which mechanism is the most reliable for everyday sleeping?
- The simplest is the Eurobook: it has the fewest moving parts. But “most reliable” and “most convenient” do not coincide here: a Dolphin unfolds without moving away from the wall, and in a small room that may matter more.
- Can a corner sofa be assembled with the corner on the other side?
- The corner side is chosen when ordering: we make the sofa for the left or right side of the room. On an already assembled sofa the corner cannot be switched, so decide on the side before ordering.
- Does a sofa bed need a mattress?
- Our sofa bed models have an orthopaedic base, so the surface is ready for everyday sleeping straight away. Whether a model has the base is stated in its specifications — check the product page before ordering.
- How much space is needed in front of the sofa?
- It depends on the model: when unfolded, the sofa gains depth. Our manager will give you the exact figure for the chosen model — and allow for a walkway too, so you can get past the unfolded sofa.
- How is a corner sofa better than a straight one for sleeping?
- A wider sleeping area for the same wall length: not only the front section works, but the side section too.
