Three models with the Dolphin mechanism — the largest sleeping areas in our sofa catalogue. The main advantage of the mechanism: the sofa unfolds without moving away from the wall, so it suits rooms where every centimetre counts.
How the Dolphin mechanism works
The lower section pulls out from under the seat and rises level with it — hence the name: the movement resembles a dolphin’s leap. The surface comes out flat, with no step between the parts.
The practical advantage is that the sofa does not need to be moved away from the wall. This matters in living rooms where the sofa stands flush against the wall, and in small rooms with no spare space behind.
The mechanism is designed for regular use: the construction withstands daily unfolding without loosening.
How the models differ
VINCE — a 180 × 180 cm sleeping area, available in three lengths: 200, 220 and 260 cm. Filling — a combination of polyurethane foam of varying density.
ISSA — a 145 × 190 cm sleeping area for two. Dimensions 220 × 100 × 95 cm. A full format for everyday sleeping.
BARON — the largest model, 260 cm long. Fitted with a large pull-out storage drawer. Designed specifically for daily unfolding. The filling differs from the rest: elastic rubber webbing, polyurethane foam and polyester wadding.
A sofa bed that needs no mattress
A familiar story: someone buys a sofa bed, sleeps on it for a month, then buys a thin mattress or a mattress topper — because the surface is uneven or lacks support.
Our sofa bed models have an orthopaedic base: the unfolded surface is ready for everyday sleeping straight away, with nothing extra to buy.
The comparison here is not “sofa versus sofa”, but a sofa with a ready sleeping area versus a sofa plus a mattress. In the second case, another purchase is added to the price, and the total comes out higher.
In the specifications of each model this is a separate line — “Orthopaedic properties”. If you are choosing a sofa specifically for everyday sleeping, check it before ordering.
Filling
All our upholstered furniture is filled with durable polyurethane foam of varying density. Firmer layers underneath provide support and hold the shape; softer layers on top provide seating comfort.
We do not use spring units. A combination of polyurethane foam of varying density gives even support across the whole surface: no separate areas that sag on their own, and no metal that starts responding to every movement over time.
A layer of hollow fibre lies between the fabric and the foam. It holds the shape: it keeps the upholstery from sagging and smooths the transition, so creases do not appear at the seams over time.
Hidden parts are lined with Fibertex — the underside and inner surfaces that nobody looks at in a showroom, yet this is where a piece quietly wears the most. The lining protects the inner layers from dust and friction.
This solution is the same across the whole range — from a pouf to a large corner sofa. You do not choose between a “cheap” and an “expensive” filling: it is the same, and the price difference goes into the construction, size and fabric.
More on this in the article Polyurethane foam or spring unit: why our sofas have no springs.
What to consider when choosing
Check not only the length of the sofa but also its depth when unfolded — it is greater than the depth of the folded sofa. Before ordering, measure the room allowing for a walkway past the unfolded sofa.
If you plan to add a mattress or topper, check the actual inner size of the sleeping area: it may differ from the external dimensions of the sofa.
All our fabrics are hypoallergenic. In addition, some collections have extra properties: anti-scratch — with a dense weave that stands up better to claws, and water-repellent — with a treatment that makes stains easier to remove.
The fabrics are divided into three categories — ECO, PRESTIGE and PREMIUM. It is important to understand that the category determines the price, not the set of properties. Anti-scratch and water-repellent collections exist in different categories, so choose by the specific collection, not by the tier.
Tell our manager about your situation — children, pets, a sunny side, how often you plan to clean — and you will get a selection of specific collections for your case. We send samples so you can see and touch them before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
- Is it true that a Dolphin does not need to be moved away from the wall?
- Yes, that is the main advantage of the mechanism: the lower section pulls forward and rises, while the back of the sofa stays in place.
- Which sofa is suitable for everyday sleeping?
- All three models are designed for regular unfolding. By sleeping area size, the largest format is VINCE — 180 × 180 cm, and ISSA — 145 × 190 cm for two. For BARON, check the sleeping area size with our manager.
- Is there storage space for bedding?
- BARON has a large pull-out drawer. For VINCE and ISSA, check the availability of a compartment with our manager — the specification may vary depending on the configuration.
- Will an ordinary mattress fit on such a sofa?
- You can add a topper or a thin mattress, but first check the actual inner size of the sleeping area of the specific model. A thick orthopaedic mattress is not designed for a sofa bed.
- Can I order a different size?
- Yes. VINCE is available in three lengths as standard. Non-standard sizes for any model are possible after agreement with the technologist — some changes affect how the mechanism works, so we consider each case individually.
